Lighting can be one of the best ways to enhance the quality of an outdoor or indoor space. Depending on exactly what you are using the lighting for, more often than not less is more with quality lighting. The introduction of one or two light sources can be enough to add an extra dimension to any indoor or outdoor space, often for a relatively small cost.Outdoors, how you use your lighting is important. The most elegant lighting brings to mind starlight or moonlight, rather than sunlight, and this usually means subtle lighting, that creates an atmosphere. Too much lighting and you run the risk of washing out the surroundings; the best outdoor lighting should be subtle and not too bright. With this in mind, one or two
outdoor wall lights can work wonderfully.
Even indoors, too many lights can be a problem. Again, your choice of architectural lighting does obviously depend on exactly what your lighting, and why your lighting it. Nevertheless, often the best lighting is that which is not on show, perhaps used to create subtle lighting effects rather than merely light the room per se.
Many architects strive for organic interiors. Lighting, when it is on show, can undermine the organic aesthetic, unless it is used sparingly and subtly. Thankfully, these days there are lots of lights available that are designed to fit covertly into spaces.
On a final note, the less lights that you use the less the expenditure in terms of energy consumptions, this is definitely worth bearing in mind.
